In a harrowing incident at the Akwanserem police barrier in the Adansi Asokwa district of the Ashanti region, a driver was apprehended after colliding with a police officer on duty.
The arrested individual, identified as Adams Fuseini Barro, was driving a Mitsubishi Pajero bearing registration number GT 7116-P, travelling from Adansi Asokwa to New Edubiase. Disregarding signals from law enforcement upon reaching the Adansi Akwanserem police barrier, Barro accelerated, attempting to evade inspection.
In a reckless attempt to flee, Barro tragically struck G/Constable Theophilus Amissah Arthur, a dedicated officer stationed at the barrier.
Additionally, he collided with a stationary Matiz taxi, registered as AC 337-20, causing injuries to passengers aboard.
Emergency services swiftly responded, transporting Constable Amissah Arthur and the injured passengers to the Fomena district hospital for urgent medical attention.
Barro was promptly detained and is currently held in custody at the Fomena district police headquarters pending further investigation into the incident.
