Five members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti region have picked nomination forms to contest for the party’s parliamentary primary scheduled for Sunday 14th July 2024 in Kumasi.

This follows the appointment of Manhyia South Constituency Member of Parliament Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate to Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) opened nominations on Monday, July 8, for interested members of the party in good standing in the Manhyia South Constituency to pick nomination forms and file on July 9, 2024.

Five aspirants Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, a brother of Napo; lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour; James Boakye; Mr. Kwasi Koka Gyambibi; and Kwabena Amankwa Antwi picked their nomination forms.

Some prospective candidates sent their supporters to pick the forms on their behalf while some others picked their forms in person.

Meanwhile posters of six aspirants had popped up for the race, however, it is not clear if the only female, Nana Ama Timah has rescinded her decision.

The vetting according to the party will be held on Wednesday July 10, 2024 while voting for a new parliamentary candidate will be held on Sunday July 14, 2024.

The party therefore pledged a free and fair electoral process and urged prospective aspirants to be mindful of their utterances, emphasizing that this is an internal affair.
