The Ashanti Regional Police Command has apprehended five robbery suspects in a series of intelligence-driven operations.
Two of the suspects are linked to the alleged stabbing murder of 28-year-old Silver Ngozi in Asokore Mampong, while the other three are believed to be serial street criminals operating in various parts of Kumasi.
DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, Regional Police Commander, disclosed that the suspects were arrested on December 12 following intelligence gathering.
The arrests were made at Aboabo hideouts during a joint operation between the Regional Headquarters and the Anti-Robbery Unit.
According to the Police, two suspects, 20-year-old motorbike mechanic Farouk Iddris and 19-year-old rickshaw rider Salim Mohammed, confessed to robbing Ms Ngozi on December 6 at approximately 5:00 pm.
Mohammed allegedly identified a zigzag-edged knife used to stab the victim, which was recovered along with a machete, additional knives, and the deceased’s iPhone 11 Pro found in Iddris’ room.
The remaining suspects – 22-year-old Abdul Fatawu (alias “UN”), 24-year-old Philip Nyarko (alias “Kawawa”), and 21-year-old Samak Hadi (alias “Toronto”) – admitted to a string of armed robberies in Asokore Mampong, KNUST, Kanyase, Bosore, Duase, Antoa, Mayanka, Ayeduase, and surrounding areas. Recovered items included 59 iPhones, six Android phones, four tablets, and five laptops.
