A powerful rainstorm has caused significant destruction in Asante Akyem Praso, located in the Asante Akyem South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The storm, which lasted for about two and a half hours, unroofed 19 buildings, including a school block, a church, a chop bar, and several residential homes. Among the affected properties is the residence of the local Assembly Member.

The storm struck on the evening of Monday, March 17, beginning around 8:00 p.m. In addition to the structural damage, four electricity poles in the Kejetia area were also brought down, worsening the impact on residents.

Speaking about the disaster, Hon. Daniel Ntiamoah, also known as Hon. Kofi Tailor, the Assembly Member for the Dadieso Electoral Area, described the extent of the destruction.

He urged the government and the Ashanti Regional Minister to provide urgent relief to affected residents, many of whom have lost household items and personal belongings.

Several schoolchildren and residents whose homes were damaged appealed to authorities for immediate assistance to help them recover.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) visited the scene to assess the damage and assured residents that they would work towards securing government support.

They also advised the community to take precautionary measures to prevent further losses in future weather-related incidents.
