A 37-year-old pregnant woman, Anita Owusu, tragically passed away during childbirth at the Asonomaso Government Hospital in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Her grieving husband, Mr. Kofi Acheampong, has accused the hospital and its staff of medical negligence and extortion.
Speaking to investigative journalist Asona Dehyie Kwateng, Mr. Acheampong, 46, recounted the harrowing experience of losing his wife.
He explained that he rushed Anita to the hospital when she went into labour. Following an examination, doctors admitted her to the maternity ward and decided she needed an emergency cesarean section (CS).
Mr. Acheampong claims that the medical team gave his wife an incorrect blood transfusion, which contributed to her death. He further alleged that if the hospital had provided adequate and efficient medical care, his wife’s life could have been saved.
He called on the Ministry of Health (MOH) to investigate the circumstances surrounding Anita’s death, describing the situation as a grave injustice.
Meanwhile, an investigation by Asona Dehyie Kwateng has uncovered other allegations against the hospital.
Residents from Nkwanta, Asonomaso, and Aboaso have accused some staff of extorting money from patients and neglecting their duties, further fueling concerns about the quality of care at the facility.
The Asonomaso Government Hospital is yet to issue a statement addressing these accusations.
As the community mourns the tragic loss of Anita Owusu, her husband and other affected families are demanding accountability and justice.
