Shop owners at the Kejetia new market in the Ashanti Region have threatened to demonstrate against the management of the market and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly over exorbitant electricity bills.
The traders said the electricity charge paid by each shop owner is extremely affecting their businesses.
According to them they have reported the issue to the authorities of the market and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly yet nothing has been done about it.
Addressing the press, Nana Akwasi Prempeh, the Public Relations Officer for the traders also mentioned other alarming problems facing the shop owners of the new Kejetia market.
He stated that most of shops’ roof leaked miserably when it rains because of poor work done by the contractor.
The traders also complained about chocked gutters, non-access routes to some part of the market, looming health risk as a result of vehicle excessive fumes, exorbitant light bills, service charges among other concerns which they say is affecting their business.
He, therefore, on behalf of the traders gave the management of the market and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly a 14-day ultimatum to fix the problem else they will demonstrate.
