A 57-year-old man, Francis, has died by suicide in Mamponteng, within the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region, several months after separating from his wife.

The tragedy has shocked the local community and highlighted the severe emotional toll of marital breakdown on individuals lacking adequate support networks.

The alarm was raised yesterday evening when neighbours noticed a strong odour emanating from Francis’s room. Local Assemblyman Yaminu Sulemana reported that upon investigation, Francis was discovered hanged, and his body had already begun to decompose.

The Mamponteng Police were immediately notified, securing the scene before arranging a prompt burial in accordance with local customs, with assistance from residents.

Mr Sulemana noted that Francis had appeared visibly withdrawn, distressed, and increasingly isolated following the divorce.

Although community members checked on him periodically, the full extent of his emotional distress remained unrecognized.

Described as a hardworking father of three, Francis was known as a quiet individual who kept to himself, giving no prior indication of his intentions.

The Mamponteng Police have launched an investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.
