The Ashanti Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service has launched an investigation into a tragic fire outbreak at Gyinyase, near Atonsu in the Asokwa Municipality, which claimed the lives of a mother and her three children.
The devastating incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 8, 2025, when a fire engulfed a three-bedroom house.
The victims, identified as Linda Kusi, a nurse at Kumasi South Government Hospital, and her three children, aged between 7 and 14, were trapped inside their room as the flames rapidly spread.
Despite desperate efforts by neighbours to rescue them, the intensity of the fire made access impossible. Firefighters arrived at the scene after being alerted and managed to extinguish the blaze, but the victims had already been burnt beyond recognition.
Other occupants of the house were successfully rescued and are currently receiving treatment at Kumasi South Hospital.
The police have transported the remains of the deceased to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for preservation.
Authorities have begun investigations to determine the cause of the fire and implement measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
