Chief Abdulai Mohammed, the Zongo Chief of Mpasatia, has made a public call for the Electoral Commission (EC) to adhere strictly to its scheduled timeline for the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
His appeal aims to prevent potential tension and ensure a peaceful and transparent electoral process as Ghana prepares for this critical national event.
Chief Abdulai Mohammed emphasized the importance of maintaining stability and public trust by sticking to the planned electoral schedule.
Speaking to the press, he highlighted that delays or discrepancies could result in public mistrust, speculation, and even violence.
“A timely electoral process is crucial in preventing unnecessary tension and confusion among voters, stakeholders, and political parties. By adhering to the scheduled timeline, the EC can ensure that all necessary preparations are made, and any potential issues are addressed promptly,” he noted.
The Chief also called on the media, security forces, and other key stakeholders to act responsibly in their coverage and interactions to avoid any actions that could lead to future repercussions.
He cautioned against the premature declaration of results, stressing that the media should be circumspect and avoid actions that could stoke unnecessary public anxiety.
The EC, which oversees the entire electoral process from voter registration to the declaration of results, holds a critical responsibility in upholding public confidence through transparency and timeliness.
Chief Abdulai’s remarks serve as a reminder of the high stakes surrounding the commission’s duty and the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to foster a peaceful electoral environment.
As the countdown to the 2024 elections continues, Chief Abdulai’s message underscores the need for all involved parties, including the media and security agencies, to implement robust measures that will guarantee a smooth, peaceful, and credible voting process.
