The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region held a press conference on Thursday, June 13, to address pressing issues related to Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s visit to the region.
The NDC claims the Vice President’s three-day visit is a form of propaganda that offers no real benefits to the people of Ashanti, describing it as an insult to their intelligence.
Speaking to the press, Augustus Andrews, also known as Nana Akwasi, the Chairman of the NDC in the region, expressed his party’s disappointment in the Vice President.
He criticized Dr. Bawumia for allegedly busing students from various schools to attend his “youth connect” event, purportedly with the Minister of Education’s approval.
Nana Akwasi argued that the Vice President should be focusing on economic issues rather than engaging in such activities.
“His work is to focus on the economy and stop cruising in cars. Now, Ghanaians are suffering, and the Vice President who is seeking to be President doesn’t care,” Andrews stated.
Furthermore, Nana Akwasi issued a stern warning to the NPP to cease the practice of busing people to polling stations to transfer their votes to certain constituencies, specifically mentioning Ahafo Ano North and South-East, New Edubiase, and others.
He urged his party members to remain vigilant and resist any attempts at manipulation or oppression at their polling stations and constituencies.
The press conference highlighted the NDC’s ongoing concerns about the current administration’s handling of economic issues and electoral integrity, positioning these as central themes in their critique of Dr. Bawumia’s regional tour.
