Residents of Anwiam-Dangobaline in the Oforikrom Municipality of the Ashanti Region are facing a severe healthcare crisis due to deplorable road conditions.

Pregnant women, children, and the elderly are particularly vulnerable, often experiencing life-threatening delays in accessing essential medical care at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Manhyia Hospital.

The community narrates harrowing experiences of women delivering on the way to the hospital due to the poor road network. Some have even lost their lives or babies as a result of complications arising from the arduous journey.

Madam Safia Mohammed, a resident, recounted a distressing incident where she delivered prematurely on a motorbike due to the road’s condition. Despite the emergency, her husband was fined by the hospital for the home delivery.

Fatti Dabaala, another resident, highlighted the increased risk of maternal complications caused by the prolonged and bumpy transport to healthcare facilities.

The community is pleading for the establishment of a public healthcare facility closer to Anwiam-Dangobaline to address this urgent issue.

The Oforikrom Municipal Assembly has been urged to prioritize the construction of the road to improve accessibility to the only private hospital in the area, Anwiam Hospital Annex.

Assembly Member John Nketiah confirmed that the issue has been raised at multiple meetings but with little progress.

The community is now desperate for immediate intervention to prevent further loss of lives and ensure the well-being of pregnant women and other vulnerable residents.
