The Okyerekrom D/A primary and Junior High School in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti region is in desperate need of maintenance.
In an interview with Asona Dehyie Kwarteng, Chief of Okyerekrom, Nana Kofi Owusu, noted that the school is gradually sinking into the ground, taking away the pride of education from children in the community.
According to the Chief, the death trap school has become a habitat for goats, weeds, lizards, snakes and other dangerous reptiles.
The school building has its roof almost ripped off and the wall built with clay is fast deteriorating.
The dilapidated school building is almost everything including School buildings, desks, textbooks, teachers and other teaching and learning materials.
According to the Assembly member of the area, Hon Ibrahim Godfred, the situation is very disheartening and pathetic.
He said letters have been written to the Member of Parliament of the Constituency and the District Chief Executive but all proved futile. He is appealing to the government, NGOs and individual philanthropists to help renovate the dilapidated structure.
