A land dispute at Akwatia Line in the Ashanti Region resulted in violence on Wednesday, leaving one person killed and two others critically injured.
The unrest began when a private developer, claiming ownership of a plot currently under litigation, arrived at the site to begin demolition.
Witnesses noted that the developer was accompanied by police personnel as the clearing of the land commenced.
The demolition has reportedly displaced hundreds of local residents. While the community acknowledges they do not hold legal title to the land, they raised concerns.
Residents claim they received no prior warning, leading to sudden and chaotic displacement.
Since the ownership dispute is still pending in court, residents argue that no party should have initiated a demolition until a final judicial ruling was delivered.
The Manhyia District Police Command intervened shortly after the violence broke out to restore order to the area.
One suspect has been taken into custody.
The police have issued a public assurance that a thorough investigation into the fatality and the circumstances of the demolition is underway.
