The Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) in the Ashanti Region has recorded a major breakthrough in the fight against armed robbery with the arrest of a notorious fugitive and his accomplices in the Denchemuoso District.
Acting on credible intelligence, PID operatives on April 22, 2025, apprehended 32-year-old Michael Owusu Ansah, alias Baby Last, a suspect who had been on the police wanted list since 2016. Owusu Ansah is linked to a robbery that led to the death of Police Officer G/Cpl Frank Essel of the SWAT Unit in Ashanti. The officer was fatally attacked during a robbery at the Open Space Hotel in Denchemuoso on May 19, 2016.
During interrogation, Owusu Ansah admitted to his involvement in several armed robberies targeting both residents and businesses in Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, and Asuoyeboah. He revealed that his gang typically operated using knives, pistols, and pump-action guns.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of four accomplices:
Emmanuel Owusu, alias Cassidy (30)
Maxwell Gyimah, alias Nana Kwame (31)
Sudais Oxford Ntiamoah, alias The Man Sudais
Rhano Okyere, alias Demon
The suspects were apprehended from various hideouts in Atwima-Techiman and Denchemuoso. A fifth suspect, known only as Abedi, remains at large, and efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest him, as well as recover the gang’s weapons.
All five suspects were arraigned before the Atasomanso Circuit Court on May 13, 2025, and were remanded into police custody. They are expected to reappear in court on June 4, 2025.
The police have assured the public of their commitment to dismantling criminal networks and maintaining security across the region.
