A taxi driver in his late 30s, Adjei Lawrence popularly known as Akwasi has been hospitalized at the Ejisu Government Hospital after a police officer stationed at Ejisu Police Command popularly identified as Efo assaulted him without any provocation.
Narrating the incident to the Republic Press, a senior brother to the victim, Mr Alex Nyarko revealed that, the police officer drove carelessly and nearly hit the taxi driver who shouted at the officer trying to know the reason for such careless overtaking.
Mr Nyarko said the taxi driver who was nearly pushed into a ditch by this reckless driving police officer complained about his action and was subjected to severe beatings by the officer.
He said unfortunately for the police officer while assaulting the driver, his Gota (woki toki) fell into the taxi cap without his notice.
The officer after realizing his Gota is missing returned to the assaulted driver on his hospital bed threatening him to return the Gota otherwise, the worse thing will happen to him.
Mr Nyarko added that the police officer who according to the report drives the Divisional Commander reported the incident to his colleagues, who came to surround the residence of the victim with guns in demand of the missing Gota.
In their quest to retrieve the Gota, the victim, who was still nursing an injury as a result of the assault was picked up from his hospital bed and detained at the Ejisu police cells for refusing to hand over the missing Gota to the police.
The senior brother told the paper that, the family have taken the Gota, to the Ashanti Regional Police Command in Kumasi to make an official report against the said officer.
Mr Nyarko is therefore calling on the Inspector General of Police to intervene and seek justice for his brother as the police in Ejisu are intimidating the family.
All attempts to speak to the officer in charge prove futile as calls to his cell phone went unanswered.
