The building of the Atwima Asamang D/A Primary School in the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region has collapsed.

The  incident occurred on Saturday, 4th March 2023.  A rainstorm that swept across the town (Atwima Asamang) caused havoc to the walls of the dilapidated school building.

Information gathered reveals that some kids  were hiding in the building during the heavy rainfall when the building collapsed and nearly killed them.

Local reports suggest that the chiefs and residents of the area had threatened to pull down the building due to its weak state.

But, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah and then District Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Kofi Marfo when contacted, promised to renovate and complete the building but have since failed to do so.

Interviewing pupils of the schools, they said the building had become a death trap to them making it scary whenever they go to school.

They have, therefore, called on the government, the Atwima Mponua MP and DCE to intervene and reconstruct the building immediately.

Reports indicated that the Atwima Asamang Basic School was founded by local habitats which was built with mud locally known as “Atakwame” through communal labour  in their crave to make education accessible to their children”. “It was subsequently absorbed by the Ghana Education Service”.

‘However, the school has not seen any major renovation hence the condition of the school building has deteriorated and collapsed.  He said the school’s population has reduced drastically due to the nature of the building.
