Students at Mpasatia African Faith Basic School and Amadu Primary School in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region face a daily threat to their safety as they flee their classrooms to avoid snake bites.
The pupils, who study in a severely deteriorated classroom block, report frequent incidents of snakes entering from nearby overgrown bushes, transforming their learning environment into a dangerous “deathtrap.”
The classroom block, originally built by local chiefs and community members, was intended to be a temporary solution, with the hope that government support would follow to improve conditions.
However, years have passed without any intervention, and the situation has only worsened, leaving the community frustrated.
Residents say they have repeatedly raised the issue with District Chief Executive (DCE) Hon. Isaac Kofi Marfo, but their pleas have gone unanswered.
Assembly member Hon. Karim Salifu, who has submitted numerous written appeals on behalf of the community, also expressed his frustration at the lack of response from the authorities.
Desperate for a solution, the residents and the Assembly member are appealing to philanthropists, NGOs, and other organizations to step in and help provide a safe learning environment for the children.
