Tension is escalating in the Dadwen community in the Adansi North District after residents reported what they describe as unlawful mass arrests and brutalities carried out by joint military and police forces on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
According to the Concerned Citizens of Dadwen, approximately 350 residents — including minors — were rounded up, assaulted, and transported to unknown locations. The sweep created intense fear, with residents claiming that “no single adult male is currently in the community.” Families say several children were also taken away, and their whereabouts remain unclear.
Addressing the media earlier today, community leaders strongly denied allegations that Dadwen is involved in illegal mining (galamsey). They insisted the town is made up of farmers and traders, not miners.
“We the people of Dadwen are innocent. The accusations that we are engaged in galamsey are false, misleading, and must be withdrawn,” the group stated.
The residents are demanding:
Immediate and unconditional release of all persons arrested.
Compensation and medical care for victims of alleged assault.
Restitution for all properties damaged during the operation.
Sources close to the community claim that the armed military team was originally deployed for an operation in Hwediem, Asutifi in the Ahafo Region but allegedly acted on wrong intelligence, leading to the raid on Dadwen.
The community is urgently appealing to the government, civil society organizations, media houses, and the general public to intervene to ensure justice and restore calm.
