Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested three men in connection with the unlawful possession of firearms during a snap check operation at Atwima Trabuom and Nweneso in the Foase District.

The suspects, identified as Mohammed Ali, 25, and Haruna Issah, 42, both believed to be of Fulani extraction, were apprehended on Sunday, August 17, 2025, around 4:00 p.m. while riding an unregistered Haojin motorbike.

A search conducted on them led to the recovery of three locally manufactured pistols concealed in a small bag carried by Mohammed Ali.

During interrogation, Mohammed Ali reportedly told police investigators that he obtained the weapons from a blacksmith at Nkawie.

Acting on this information, the police extended investigations to Nkawie, where 55-year-old Yaw Appiah, identified by the suspect as the supplier, was arrested.

A search of Appiah’s premises, however, did not yield any additional weapons or incriminating items.

The three suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while the retrieved pistols have been secured as exhibits.

Police say steps are being taken to expedite the legal process and arraign the suspects before court.
