Three Nigerian nationals have been jailed for 10 years for their role in a series of vehicle thefts across the Kumasi Metropolis.

The convicts Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze were apprehended by officers from the Suame Divisional Police Command on June 20, 2025, during targeted operations against car theft syndicates.

On July 22, 2025, they appeared before the Atasemanso Circuit Court, where Russell Ekenze pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour (IHL).

His accomplices, Friday and Agwazie, pleaded not guilty, resulting in a full trial.

However, Circuit Court 3, on July 23, found them guilty on two counts each, sentencing them to 8 years each (concurrent).

On the same day, Circuit Court 1 also handed down an additional 20-year concurrent sentence to all three convicts for related offences.

In a further ruling on July 24, Circuit Court 2 convicted Ekenze again, adding another 10-year concurrent sentence.

The three are currently serving their terms at the Kumasi Central Prison.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command, through the Suame Divisional Police, described the convictions as a major step in dismantling organized and cross-border criminal networks.

The Command further encouraged residents to continue sharing intelligence and reporting suspicious activities to aid crime prevention.
