The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with unlawful possession of firearms following an intelligence-led operation carried out by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit on Tuesday, 9th July 2025.
According to a police statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Region, the carefully planned operation targeted known criminal hideouts in Nweneso, Trabuom, and Nkwawie in the Atwima District.
The suspects — identified as Acheampong Kwadwo, 21, and James Antwi Adjei, 24 — were arrested during the dawn swoop.

“A search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of two pump-action shotguns — one bearing serial number ASAO 2164 2021, and another without a serial number,” DSP Ahianyo disclosed.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the firearms may have been stolen and were possibly intended for use in planned robbery operations across the Atwima Districts and the Greater Kumasi area.
The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with investigations. The recovered firearms have been retained as exhibits to aid the ongoing probe.
DSP Ahianyo assured the public that the police remain committed to clamping down on violent crimes and will provide further updates as investigations progress.
