The Suntreso District Police Command has arrested two young men in connection with a dawn street robbery at Alignment, a suburb of Kwadaso Estate in Kumasi.
The suspects, identified as Issah Abdul, 22, and Abdul Rahman, 20, were apprehended following swift police intelligence operations.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the robbery occurred at about 5:45 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, when the suspects, riding an unregistered blue Royal motorbike, accosted a woman on her way out of her residence.
“One of the suspects, armed with a machete, forcibly robbed the victim of her handbag, which contained a Samsung smartphone valued at GHC 2,000 and other personal belongings,” DSP Ahianyo told the press.
In a twist of fate, one of the robbers dropped his Samsung mobile phone during the attack. The victim promptly handed the phone over to the police, providing a crucial lead in the case.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police tracked and arrested the suspects at Safoline, where they were found with the blue Royal motorbike believed to have been used in the robbery. A search on them uncovered four assorted mobile phones and a cash amount of GHC 1,690.00.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to the crime and led police investigators to Suame Magazine, where the machete used in the attack was hidden. The weapon has since been retrieved and added to the evidence against them.
DSP Ahianyo confirmed that the following items have been retained as exhibits:
Five (5) assorted mobile phones
One (1) unregistered Royal motorbike
One (1) machete
Cash amount of GHC 1,690.00
“The suspects are in police custody assisting with further investigations. An application will be made to the court to remand them, and an identification parade will be conducted to help other victims of similar crimes identify the suspects,” DSP Ahianyo added.
The police have assured the public of their continued resolve to rid the region of criminal elements and have encouraged victims of recent robberies to come forward.
