A swift intelligence-led operation by officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters has led to the arrest of two suspected armed robbers believed to be part of a four-man gang involved in a robbery and carjacking incident at Mpatasie, near St. Anthony Hospital in Kumasi.
The incident occurred on Friday, November 7, 2025. According to police sources, the suspects allegedly attacked their victim and fled the scene with an unregistered Hyundai Tucson.
The CID Headquarters received information on the robbery through the Bohyen District Police Command and immediately launched an intelligence operation to trace the stolen vehicle and apprehend the culprits.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had left the Ashanti Region and were heading toward Accra using the stolen car. Acting on this intelligence, a CID team mounted surveillance along the Accra-Nsawam Highway in the early hours of Friday, November 8, 2025.
The team later spotted the Hyundai Tucson with four occupants traveling along the Ofankor Barrier–St. John’s stretch. Upon attempting to intercept the vehicle, the suspects tried to flee.
Realizing they had been cornered, they abandoned the car and took to their heels.
Police operatives gave the suspects a hot chase, leading to the arrest of two of them — identified as Issaka Jamal, aged 30, and Kwadwo Badu, aged 40.
One of the suspects sustained a gunshot wound during the operation, while the other suffered minor injuries. Both were immediately taken to the Police Hospital, where they are said to be in stable condition and responding to treatment.
A search of the recovered vehicle led to the discovery of various exhibit documents, a customized number plate marked “Congo-1-24”, cash amounting to GH₵5,900, and other personal effects believed to belong to the complainant.
Police sources say the two other suspects who managed to escape are currently being pursued, as efforts intensify to bring them to justice.
