In a resounding call for action, the Nifaahene of Asante Juaben, also known as the Chief of Asante Akyem Odumase, Nana Dr. Kof Antwi II, has emphasised the pivotal role parents play in shaping the educational destinies of their children.
Speaking during the 7th graduation ceremony of Palmar International School in Kumasi, he underscored the theme of the event, “The role of parents in quality education.”
Nana Dr. Kof Antwi II’s message is a reminder that education is a partnership between schools and parents.
“It is not solely the responsibility of educational institutions to ensure a child’s academic success, but rather a shared endeavour that requires active involvement from parents.
“Parents are the first and most influential teachers in a child’s life. They lay the foundation for learning through early interactions, conversations, and support,” he said.
Nana then added that parents must instill discipline in their children and see to it that they have love for their books.
“Nurturing a child’s curiosity, instilling discipline, and encouraging a love for learning are essential tasks that parents can accomplish within the comfort of their homes,” he added.
Mr. Daniel Appiah, the proprietor of Palmar International School, added his voice to the conversation by appealing to the government to address the challenges faced by private educational institutions.
He urged the government to reduce the tax burden on these schools, which have been struggling under the weight of numerous taxes.
“Private schools have been a significant contributor to the education sector, offering alternative choices for parents and students.
“However, the sustainability of these institutions is at risk due to financial constraints,” he said.
Mr. Appiah stressed that a reduction in taxes would not only support private schools but also contribute to the overall quality of education in the country.
He then appealed to parents to get involved in their children’s educational journey, as he promised that his school would be instituted to offer quality educational services to the children.
“The message is clear: parents are instrumental in the educational journey of their children.
“Their involvement, coupled with the school’s support, is vital to ensuring that every child in Palmar has access to quality education.
“It is a collective effort that holds the promise of a brighter and more educated future for the youth of Ghana,” he added.
