The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyeman, has raised alarm over a surge in upper respiratory infections in his constituency, attributing the trend to the deplorable state of roads.
Speaking in Parliament, Dr. Agyeman pressed the Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, for answers regarding the long-stalled road projects in Nkonso, Asafo, Asafo Maase-Old Tafo, Kyebi Apapamu Larbi, and other areas.
He stressed that the poor road conditions and abandoned resurfacing projects had created excessive dust, posing severe health risks to residents.
“As you may be aware, the multimobility index in Ghana has increased tremendously, and one of the key factors is upper respiratory diseases. The incomplete resurfacing of these roads has left them in a dusty state, significantly endangering public health. I urge you to prioritize this issue for the well-being of the people of Abuakwa South,” he pleaded.
In response, Minister Agbodza acknowledged the concerns and outlined reasons for the delay in completing the projects. Though he did not commit to a specific timeline, he assured the MP and his constituents that the government remains dedicated to improving road infrastructure, including in Abuakwa South.
Residents continue to endure the effects of poor roads, with many hoping for swift government intervention to curb the health crisis.
