They all pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit assault and three counts of assault, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

Violent incident at polling station

According to the prosecution, the incident took place at the Methodist Church Polling Station, where voting was underway in the constituency’s re-run election.

Victims of the attack included Hawa Mavis Koomson, former Minister of State and ex-Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East; Majeed Mohammed Saana, a trader; and Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei, Deputy Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Prosecutors narrated that the accused men, without provocation, launched an assault on the three while they were monitoring electoral proceedings. Mrs. Koomson and Mr. Saana were attacked first before the group turned on Mr. Kwei, leaving the victims injured.

The case was brought before the court on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, and was fast-tracked after all the accused admitted their roles in the violence. Their guilty pleas enabled the court to conclude the trial swiftly, leading to their conviction and sentencing within the week.
