Former Vice President and NPP flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has broken his silence on the violence that marred the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun, expressing deep concern over the assault on party member and former MP, Hawa Koomson.
Addressing the media after the incident, Dr. Bawumia criticized the ruling NDC government for failing to maintain law and order during the election process, describing the situation as unacceptable and troubling for Ghana’s democracy.
“I am deeply disappointed that such violence was allowed to take place under the watch of the current government,” he stated.
He further demanded swift action from law enforcement to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack, stressing that incidents like this should not go unpunished.
“This is not just about Hawa Koomson. It is about protecting the integrity of our electoral system and the safety of every Ghanaian,” Dr. Bawumia added.
He cautioned that if justice is not served, the NPP will not take the matter lightly and will ensure the incident remains in the national consciousness.
The Ablekuma North rerun, held across 19 polling stations, was overshadowed by tensions, arrests, and allegations of political intimidation, drawing sharp criticism from opposition leaders and election observers.
