The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers Association has announced plans to eject foreigners engaged in retail trading activities.

The exercise, which is set to start today, Monday, September 8, 2025, according to the Association, is to ensure strict compliance with the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Act, 2013 (Act 865).

A statement issued and signed by its Director of Communications, Takyi Addo, disclosed that Section 27(1) of the Act prohibits non-citizens from engaging in petty trading, hawking, or selling goods in stalls and markets.

It said despite the law, foreigners continue to operate in the retail market.

The Association maintained that the situation is depriving Ghanaians, particularly traders, of their livelihoods.

“Successive governments have failed to ensure full enforcement of this Act, resulting in a persistent drain on the businesses of Ghanaian traders. The time has come to uphold the law and protect local enterprise from unlawful competition,” the statement read.

It further noted that its action was not in opposition to foreign investment in Ghana, considering the impact on the Ghanaian economy.

However, they want such investments to comply with the country’s trade laws.
