In a bold step to promote education and digital literacy in his traditional area, Otoobour Djan Kwasi II, the Chief of Aburi (Aburihene) and Adontenhene of Akuapem, has commissioned a fully equipped computer laboratory for the Nsakyie Basic School under the banner of the Otoobour Foundation.

At a colorful ceremony that drew community members, school staff, students, and local leaders, the Chief emphasized the importance of education as the key to national development and personal empowerment.

“We must train our children to reach a stage appreciated by them and the whole nation,” Otoobour Djan Kwasi II declared. “Education is very important. There is competition. Without it, you will be lagging behind.”

He explained that the initiative is part of a broader vision to empower children across Aburi and Akuapem through education, especially in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which is critical to success in today’s digital world.

“We are starting with Nsakyie, but we will ensure that we establish the same in all other schools here. We cannot depend on the government alone. There might be many others in line, and before it gets to us, it may take too long. This Foundation has taken the initiative to support our children.”

The Aburihene also pledged to establish a Science Laboratory for the school to complement the ICT center and boost science education in the area.

Community Praises the Chief’s Vision

Community leaders, parents, and school officials praised the Chief for his foresight and commitment to education.

Speaking at the ceremony, Emmanuel Ashitey Tio, Assembly Member for Nsakyie, described the initiative as a historic breakthrough for the community.

“This is one of the best things Otoobour Djan Kwasi has brought to our community. During our time, we only saw computers on paper. For him to have this foresight is a great benefit. We plead with him to honour his promise of establishing a Science Laboratory—we know he can and he will.”

Ashitey also appealed for support in addressing network connectivity challenges in the area to maximize the use of the facility.

“We promise to take good care of the equipment and ensure it benefits not only the school children but the entire community.”

Education Leaders Express Gratitude

The Headmaster of Nsakyie Basic School, Joy Gletsi, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chief and the Foundation. She noted that the ICT Lab opens up a world of opportunity for the students.

“This has brought the whole world to us. Our children are now closer to global developments. They can explore and learn beyond the classroom,” he said.

Mr. Gletsi also highlighted the need for a library and science laboratory, urging continued support from the community and the Foundation.

The commissioning of the ICT Lab marks a new chapter for education in Nsakyie and the wider Aburi Traditional Area.

As the Otoobour Foundation leads this community-driven model for educational development, residents remain hopeful that further interventions—especially in science, reading, and infrastructure—will follow.

With technology and education as key drivers of transformation, the people of Nsakyie believe they are finally catching up with the world—and they are determined not to be left behind.
