Management of Accra Academy has launched an investigation into a disturbing bullying incident after a viral video surfaced on social media showing a student being assaulted with a cutlass by his schoolmates.
According to a statement released by the school’s management, the incident occurred on January 17, 2025, but was only brought to their attention after the video gained traction online.
The victims had not reported the incident earlier, prompting swift action from school authorities upon discovery.
The school has since identified all students involved. The main perpetrator has been handed over to the police for further interrogation, while the other students involved who are all day students have been asked to stay away from the school pending further investigation.
The accused students have been named as Shadad Aliu (also known as Kester), Haleem Jibril (Chopper), Ahmed Dauda (Foreigner), and Richard Ninsin (Poisonous), all of whom are in their final year.
The victims include Samuel Ussher, Kingsford Quayson, Stephen Oteng, and Dominic Awuku Adjei, all first-year students.
Preliminary findings suggest that the machete used in the assault was brought from the perpetrators’ home and not from the school premises.
The school’s disciplinary committee has taken over the matter, and stakeholders will be informed of the final outcome once investigations are completed.
Authorities have assured parents and guardians that they take the issue seriously and will enforce appropriate disciplinary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
