Accra Circuit Court grants ¢200k bail to man accused of theft and unlawful entry

The Accra Circuit Court has granted bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 to a 33-year-old unemployed man, Roland Kweku Abotsi, who is facing multiple charges including conspiracy, unlawful entry, stealing, and causing unlawful damage.

The bail, which comes with two sureties one of whom must justify with landed property was granted by His Honour Jojo Amoah Hagan after Abotsi pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The case has been adjourned to December 2, 2025, for a Case Management Conference (CMC).

According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Nego Dzigbordi, the complainant, Noah Agbovie, a carpenter living at Wogbobu Avenue in Baatsonaa, left his residence for work on October 10, 2025, after securing his room with two slide tower bolt locks and padlocks.

While the complainant was away, Abotsi and an accomplice identified only as Kingsley, who is currently on the run, allegedly broke into the room by damaging the locks. The pair reportedly made away with several items, including a 6kg gas cylinder, cooking utensils, electrical cables, a metal toolbox, a bubble level, a decoder, and cash amounting to GH¢135,000.

Prosecution told the court that two witnesses Kaba Junior and another individual saw the accused persons carrying two white nylon sacks containing some of the stolen items.

When the witnesses confronted them, Kingsley fled the scene while Abotsi was apprehended and handed over to the Baatsonaa Divisional Police.

The complainant later identified the recovered items as his property and confirmed that a significant amount of money he had hidden under his bed was missing.

During interrogation, Abotsi denied any involvement, claiming that Kingsley was an old schoolmate he had met in the neighbourhood on the day of the incident and that he did not know his whereabouts.

Following investigations, Abotsi was charged and brought before the court, while police continue efforts to trace and arrest Kingsley, who remains at large.
