An Accra Circuit Court has remanded 36-year-old driver and ex-convict Abdul Rahman Kofi Asiedu into police custody while granting bail to his alleged accomplice, Daniel Cobblah, in a case involving the theft of cash, valuables, and documents from a vehicle belonging to a Chinese national.
Presiding judge, Her Honour Susana Eduful, set bail for Cobblah at GH¢50,000 with two sureties, each earning a minimum of GH¢1,500 monthly, while Asiedu remains in custody pending the outcome of the trial.
The court adjourned the matter to February 16, 2026 for further proceedings.
According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Ebenezer Teye-Okuffo, the alleged crime occurred on November 5, 2025, at Community 6, Tema. Asiedu and a third suspect, Kafui Agroh, who is currently at large, are accused of conspiring to steal items from a black Toyota Highlander (GN 5666-23) owned by Wu Xiao Ju, a Chinese national residing in the area.
The items reportedly stolen include an iPhone 16 Pro Max (gold) valued at GH¢18,000, a non-citizen Ghana Card, a Chinese citizenship card, a Chinese passport, Zenith and Ecobank Visa cards, and significant amounts of cash, including GH¢80,000, US$20,000, and €16,000.
Cobblah, a 38-year-old lotto agent from Dansoman, is facing charges of dishonestly receiving stolen property, having allegedly bought the iPhone from Asiedu for GH¢2,300, despite knowing its true value was GH¢18,000. Both Asiedu and Cobblah pleaded not guilty to their respective charges.
The prosecution presented evidence, including CCTV footage obtained on November 18, 2025, showing Asiedu breaking into the vehicle and removing the stolen items.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Cobblah on November 19, 2025, during which the stolen iPhone was recovered.
Asiedu reportedly confessed to selling the phone to Cobblah and, upon realizing he was wanted by authorities, allegedly attempted to compromise the investigation by giving GH¢30,000 from the stolen cash to a third party intended for the police.
Both Asiedu and Agroh face charges of conspiracy to steal and stealing, while Asiedu is additionally charged with causing unlawful damage, after allegedly smashing the driver-side door glass of the vehicle, valued at GH¢1,000. The third suspect, Agroh, remains at large, with police efforts ongoing to secure his arrest.
The court was also informed that Asiedu has pending cases in other courts in Accra and was previously tried for a related offence at the Kaneshie District Court, a history that the judiciary is expected to consider during trial.
The case is set to continue on February 16, 2026, as investigations and proceedings progress.
