Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Elizabeth Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey on Sunday paid a surprise visit to some churches in the Okaikoi South Sub Metro to sensitise congregants on the modalities of the Operation Clean Your Frontage campaign which is scheduled to commence on February 1 this year.

The Mayor of Accra who was accompanied by some officials of the Assembly also used the opportunity to inform members of a cleanup exercise to be organised by the Assembly from the Obetsebi roundabout to  First Light on Monday  January 24 as part of efforts to court public support.

Among Churches visited were the Church of Pentecost; Kaneshie Central and English Assemblies, Love Community Chapel International, St Theresa’s Catholic Church at Kaneshie and the Church of Pentecost North Kaneshie Central Assembly.

Interacting with the congregation, she hinted that the AMA  as part of efforts to court support for the campaign would organise a stakeholder engagement on 31st January at the Bukom Park and officially launch the initiative adding that ensuring a clean city should be the responsibility of all and sundry.

She urged the congregants and the general public to join hands and support the initiative by cleaning their environment as often as possible and changing their attitudes towards cleanliness.

“Let’s all join hands and take this bold step as we embark on this historic journey to ensure a clean city in Accra where we can all live in and love it,” she said.

She assured that the campaign would not be a nine-day wonder and urged the congregation to support the initiative.

Pastor David Opong,  District Pastor at the Church of Pentecost North Kaneshie Central Assembly where she visited last assured commitment to support the initiative.

Under the Operation Clean Your Frontage initiative, residents in the Greater Accra Region are required to clean their frontages and surroundings as mandated under the Sanitation bye-laws of the various assemblies within the region.
