The acting District Chief executive for the Afram Plains South, Hon. George Ofori has escaped a possible plot of assassination over the weekend.
According to the DCE who spoke in an interview with Kwame Koranteng on Anɔpa Dawuro on Republic, said he had gone on a funeral visit from Tease to Ekye-Amanfrom in the Kwahu South Municipality with his team.
According to him, the incident happened on Sunday, October 10th, 2021, at about 2pm in the afternoon. He noted that, in between the stretch of Tenoga and Boakye, an unknown person jumped unto the road and ordered his vehicle to stop.
“We were on our way to funeral from Tease to Ekye-Amanfrom and on along the stretch, the road is very good so my vehicle was on a bit of speed. From nowhere, one unknown guy jumped into the road and ordered us to stop. So my driver suspected a foul play and decided to ran over the guy and in that process, we spotted three other guys in the bush with one of them brandishing a rifle.” He revealed.
The DCE revealed that after the driver quickly sped off, a stray gunshot from the bush hit exactly where I was sitting from the driver’s position of the passenger.
According to Hon. George Ofori, a police patrol vehicle had already passed by and after three minutes the incident occurred.
He noted that, upon reaching Boakye, one of the towns along the road, police officers appeared at the scene and began firing warning shots.
The acting DCE revealed that his team has met the gang on a number of occasions on the stretch and as soon they spotted his vehicle, they disappear.
He noted that this is a strange attempt to him since they usually bolts when they spot his vehicle.
According to Hon. George Ofori, the bullet hit the bonnet which subsequently reduced the speed of the vehicle and the remnants from the burst windscreen scattered all over.
He noted that, this could be an inside political machinations and targeted agenda against his life.
“I wouldn’t think anybody else is behind this, but this is quite strange. My reason is that, in most cases where there’s speed, robbers don’t attack and looking at the target of where I was sitting, I’m convinced something is wrong somewhere”. He noted.
Meanwhile, the acting DCE has already filed a report to the Tease Police station for further action to be taken.
