Mrs. Maud Opoku, the wife of the Chief Executive Officer of Union Group of Companies, has been arrested by the Nima Police Station for allegedly duping another client on the pretext of securing him a visa.
In an audio intercepted by myrepubliconline.com, the Managing Director of the Union Group of Companies is heard confessing to her husband, Dr. Augustine Opoku Agyemnang, that she has misappropriated over GH₵1000.00 [the old 1,000,000 billion cedis].
When asked by her husband what she used the money for, she claimed she didn’t know and that she believed she was under a spell.
The issue is currently being investigated by the Police CID [Visa Fraud Unit] and EOCO to compel the two accused persons, Mrs. Maud Opoku Agyemang and Kumawood actress Sabby Debrah, to refund all monies paid to them.
The report also indicates that Mrs. Maud Opoku Agyemang was arrested by the Nima Police on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, for allegedly duping an aspiring traveller when the issue concerning her embezzlement of over GH₵1000.00 [the old 1,000,000 billion cedis] is yet to be finalized.
Speaking with the CEO of Union Group of Companies, he noted that it is unfortunate for a person who has been accused of a criminal offense to be arrested for the same offense for which the police and EOCO are investigating her.
He exonerated the brand ambassador of the Union Group of Companies, Portia Asare Boateng, and stated that those blaming the actress for misappropriating their funds should put a stop to it.
“Portia is innocent of all claims and nobody can arrest her for no crime. She was signed as a Brand Ambassador to project the company’s image to new and old clients. You can’t tell me you will hold Nana Ama McBrown responsible if you buy a faulty Hisense product. It is never done anyway. Ghanaians should let Portia Asare Boateng’s name rest.” Dr. Augustine Opoku Agyemang noted
The source said the agent, Sabby Debrah, allegedly failed to honour her promise of securing visas for about 313 applicants. Queen Sabby Debrah is reported to have gone into hiding, refusing to refund the money to the company following many attempts to get her arrested.
The Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Augustine Opoku Agyemang, following a series of meetings with the aggrieved customers, pledged to pay back money owed to all customers whose visa processing failed once the client produced their authentic receipts as an attachment to an application letter asking for a refund from the company.
True to his word, the CEO ordered a full refund, as about 46 customers have received their payments, with others being worked on by the staff.
Union Travel and Recruitment, initially Travel and Tours, an offshoot of Union Group of Companies, has been going through a hard time in the hands of its aggrieved customers for a couple of months now due to some operational challenges they have suffered.
