An Adentan Circuit Court has convicted a mason, aged 25, after pleading guilty to abducting a four-year-old boy from Kpedze in the Volta Region and taking him to Accra.
The convict, David Kpandoyo, a Togolese national, admitted to the offence of child stealing. The court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie, convicted him on his own plea and adjourned sentencing to a later date.
According to prosecutors, the child went missing from Kpedze on July 1, 2026. Two days later, a resident of New Legon reported to police after finding the boy wandering in the area, unable to identify where he lived.
Investigators said community announcements led Kpandoyo to claim the child was his son. However, he failed to provide any documents to support his claim or lead police to the child’s mother.
Police later received a missing child flyer containing the boy’s photograph and his mother’s contact details. The child’s mother travelled from Kpedze to Accra with the child’s birth records and confirmed she had no relationship with Kpandoyo.
During investigations, Kpandoyo admitted that the boy was not his son. He confessed that while working in Kpedze, he took the child and brought him to Accra.
In his plea before the court, Kpandoyo claimed he had been drinking when the child approached him. He said he gave the boy money, took him home, and could not remember what happened afterwards because he was intoxicated.
The prosecution was led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Patience Mario, assisted by Chief Inspector Jacob Nyarko.
