The case involving an Adisadel College student for assaulting a colleague who went viral in a video has been adjourned to Wednesday, October 4, 2023, due to the absence of the presiding judge, Mr Eric Oheneba Antwi Boasiako.
The presiding judge at Cape Coast District Court II where the case is being held initially adjourned the case to September 27 but arriving in court on the said date, the judge Mr. Eric Oheneba Antwi Boasiako was said to be on leave, and it is not clear when he would resume.
The case has, therefore, been temporarily moved to the District Court I where the parties involved would perpetually seek adjournments until the judge resumes.
There was no activity in court on Wednesday as the judges were attending a conference and are expected to resume sitting on Monday, October 2.
The assault incident which happened in July involved a 17-year-old student assaulting another colleague and hitting his head on a metallic bed in the dormitory.
According to reports the two students were fighting over a SIM card.
The incident caused a public uproar over bullying generally in schools and caught the attention of the Ministry of Education and the office of the Attorney General who called for the legal action.
The suspect was arrested and charged with assault and causing harm but pleaded not guilty in court on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, resulting in the case being suspended to allow the suspect to complete his final exams, WASSCE.
The case was then adjourned to Wednesday, September 27, 2023, to give him the opportunity to finish his exams.
