Adwoa Safo, the former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, has spoken out about the mistreatment she faced within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following accusations that she voted against Prof. Mike Oquaye’s candidacy for Speaker of Parliament.
According to Safo, the accusations were unfounded, as more than two NPP MPs voted against Oquaye due to pressure from the minority group to replace him.
Safo recalled visiting President AkufoAddo, accompanied by then-Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, to appeal to the president to consider the MPs’ concerns.
However, the president remained resolute in his decision. Safo, who was the deputy minority leader at the time of voting, expressed confusion over the accusations, wondering how she could have made such a decision when leadership was whipping members to vote in a particular way.
This development comes after Safo lost her parliamentary seat to Mike Oquaye Jnr in the NPP primaries.
Safo has also faced criticism for her extended absence from Parliament and her ministerial duties, which she attributed to a sustained political witch hunt.
