The Armed Forces Central Band (AFCB) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) marked a significant milestone on September 5, 2024, with a historic Change of Command Parade.
Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Gerald Mawah handed over leadership to Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Randolph Tawiah, after a successful three-and-a-half-year tenure.
The ceremony, held at the AFCB and Armed Forces Music School (AFMS) Square in Accra, was presided over by Brigadier General Selase Kojo Gagakumah, Commander of Support Services Command. This marked the first change of command in 25 years, since the transition between late Lt Col Okuampah and late Col Sampson Ebonyi.
In his farewell speech, Lt Col Mawah highlighted his achievements, including: Developing music and bands in the Unit, Constructing and renovating infrastructure, Retooling and purchasing new instruments and equipment, Creating new bands, including the Orchestra Band and Groovy Dance Band, Participating in international musical events and competitions,
Lt Col Mawah also deployed the first female Bandmaster for Peace Support Operations and the first female Band Officer Commanding the GAF Mass Band.
Brig Gen Gagakumah encouraged the AFCB to continue providing music for the GAF and its clients and advised Lt Col Tawiah to be morally strong and courageous in his leadership.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers, soldiers, and defense civilian staff, as well as the incoming and outgoing Directors of Band, GAF.
