The Black Stars of Ghana were held to a 2-2 draw against Mozambique in their final Group B encounter on Monday night at the the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
Chris Hughton’s men gave away a two-goal lead as the game progressed to the stoppage time.
Crystal Palace’s Jordan Ayew converted two penalty spot kicks in both the first and second half to get a brace for the night.
However, the Black Stars were stunned in stoppage time, with Geny Catamo and Reinildo Mandava scoring two goals in the space of three minutes to deny Ghana an automatic qualification.
The results means Ghana finishes third with just two points after three games.
Meanwhile, Cape Verde topped the Group B table with 7 points, whiles Egypt finished second with three points, securing an automatic qualification into the round of 16.
