Captain of the Black Stars, Andre Ayew, has reiterated the commitment of the Ghana team ahead of the 2023 group B Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opening game against Cape Verde on Sunday.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference, on Saturday, the 34-year-old said his team is doing everything they can to get a good start.
According to him, they will give their best on Sunday to ensure they pick all three points.
“Being in the team for a long time, I am not going to sit and give promises but what i can say and what i can promise is that we are working really hard, we are following the coach’s instructions. We know what the boss wants us to do, we are preparing for the game that’s coming and we are going to take it game by game,” he said.
He added that Ghana is making a lot of effort to pull off a surprise though they are not considered favorites to win this year’s AFCON.
“Let me be frank and honest. We have always been favorites in this tournament in the past years but if we look at today’s tournament, we are not part of the favorites when we people are speaking and making their predictions but we need to accept it and make sure that we surprise, stay calm and do our job but we’re gonna take it game by game we’re not gonna start promising things but we what i can promise that on Sunday, we are going to be there hundred per cent and give everything that we have to make sure we have a good start.”
