Ghana’s Black Stars are on the brink of missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after suffering a defeat to Sudan on Tuesday, October 15.
The Black Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat against Sudan’s Falcons of Jediane on matchday four of the AFCON qualifiers in Libya.
Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute after a defensive mix-up in the Ghanaian box. Gideon Mensah’s goal-line clearance fell to Mahmoud, who tapped into an empty net to make it 1-0.
Just three minutes later, Mohamed Abdelrahman doubled Sudan’s lead, overpowering Mohammed Salisu before slotting the ball past Lawrence Ati-Zigi.
Inaki Williams had a chance to pull one back for Ghana, but his volley from Tariq Lamptey’s cross missed the target.
Despite their efforts, the Black Stars were unable to find a way back into the game. The loss leaves Ghana with just two points from four games, sitting third in Group F.
Ghana now faces a must-win situation in their remaining qualifiers against Niger and Angola in November, while hoping other results work in their favour to secure qualification for AFCON 2025.
