Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on Ghanaians to embrace political diversity without letting it divide families or communities.
Citing the exemplary relationship of the Jinapor brothers, he emphasized the need for civility and mutual respect in political discourse.
The Jinapor brothers, who represent different political ideologies, have become a symbol of unity in Ghanaian politics. Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), serves as the Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency and was the former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources. On the other hand, Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), represents the Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency. He was recently appointed as Minister for Energy in President Mahama’s administration.
Despite their affiliations with opposing parties, the brothers have maintained a cordial and supportive relationship, often emphasizing that political competition should never overshadow family bonds or mutual respect.
“The politics we engage in today should not divide us, nor should it cause division within families. The Jinapor brothers remind us that political differences are natural, but they must never lead to unnecessary aggression or hostility. Let us learn from their example.” Afenyo-Markin said
He urged citizens to practice politics of inclusivity and dialogue, stressing that a united Ghana is essential for national progress.
