Kenyan Lawyer and founder of the PLO Lumumba Foundation, Professor Loch Otieno Lumumba, has descended heavily on African leaders who continue to attribute their nation’s economic difficulties to COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war.
According to the eloquent Pan-Africanist, even though the world has suffered economically as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia-Ukraine war, their effects on Africa is minimal.
In an interview with Alfred Ocansey on TV3, he said for many years, leaders in Africa have mismanaged and misgovern their respective countries.
“Russia and Ukraine war is just slightly over one year old. Covid, three years old. We’ve been messing ourselves up for over forty years, we’ve been stealing our resources, we’ve been misgoverning ourselves so we cannot be allowed the luxury of attributing our woes to Ukraine and Covid-19. That is not to say that they did not have an impact, but the impact was minimal.
He also blamed the followers as being part of the problem, as they keep praising corrupt leaders in Africa, adding that the continent will never realize its potential if they do not wake up.
“The larger share of the blame should fall squarely on the shoulders of those whom we call leaders, and we who are followers, who are led by the nose. We who cheer these individuals as they mess us up, we who celebrate them, we who have converted them into demigods, we are co-authors of our misfortune.
