Some aggrieved members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ayawaso West Wougon Constituency in the Greater Accra Region are asking the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party to annul the just-ended constituency elections which they described as fraud.

According to the angry members, the constituency will not see peace if the ‘fraud elections’ are not annulled for a new one to be conducted in the coming days.

Addressing journalists in Accra on October 27, 2022, a representative of the aspirants who lost, Mr Joshua Nii Tackie Essel, said the constituency election which was supposed to start at 7:00 a.m. started around 3:15 in the afternoon because of unnecessary delays.

Mr Tackie said the Saturday, October 22, 2022 constituency elections and its results have left many questions unanswered and the grassroots embittered because they believe that their voices which they translated into votes was somehow submerged.

He said the grassroots, especially branch executives across the constituency have constantly been in touch with them, some have decided to withdraw their services others are threatening to resign from their various branch portfolios.

“But we say don’t give up, because we are with you and we will not allow the overwhelming shout for change to be silenced. As leaders who believe in the rule of law, we have taken action and addressed the appropriate quarters to seek redress and the total annulment of Friday’s elections which was nothing but pure fraud,” Mr Tackie stated.

He alleged that the elections were smeared with irregularities, illegalities and thievery as the New Patriotic Party-backed chairman with the aid of the Electoral Commission, Electoral Committee and the Police bullied their way through to a supposed victory, but “we say to them today, that victory will not last for the voice of the people is the voice of God. “

The embattled party members say the irregularities perpetrated on the voting day are but not limited to only ballot stuffing, wrong delegate list given to aspirants, evidence of black and white ballot papers in the ballot box, under-aged delegates who voted and the fact that the ballot papers did not have serial numbers.

“We know your collective voice did not reflect due to the electoral fraud perpetrated, and we assure you that we have taken the necessary steps, gathered evidence and petitioned national and FEC.”

“We petitioned these higher bodies on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, and furnished them with details and infractions backed with facts which transpired on the election day, these infractions are similar if not the same for the reason other constituency elections have been annulled, so we believe that our petition would be granted,” he stated.

Another representative who addressed journalists in Twi, Mr Walker Obeng Darko, revealed that at the end of the election, over the voting of 316 votes was detected which means was that 316 votes were added to the total number of delegates who were supposed to cast their votes in the election.

A situation he described as fraud and assured the grassroots and branch executives that their cry has been heard and by Friday, October 28, 2022, if this petition is still shelved, we would come to you and together we shall take it off that shelves.”

“We shall take measures not limited to but exhaustive ones until the voice of you, the delegates are heard,” Mr Darko stated.
