The long-running legal dispute between gospel musician Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye and controversial evangelist Patricia Asiedua, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has been resolved through an out-of-court settlement, with the High Court formally adopting the agreed terms as a consent judgment.
The settlement, endorsed by the court on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, brings to a close two separate defamation actions initiated by Empress Gifty against Evangelist Asiedua in 2025. Under the terms of the agreement, Nana Agradaa is to pay GH¢100,000 to Empress Gifty as compensation. The amount represents a significant reduction from the GH¢40 million initially claimed in damages by the gospel artiste.
Court documents indicate that the agreed sum is intended primarily to offset legal fees and related expenses incurred by Empress Gifty in the course of pursuing the two cases.
As part of the settlement, Evangelist Asiedua has also undertaken to issue a public retraction of the statements that formed the basis of the lawsuits, as well as a public apology to Empress Gifty Oppong Adorye.
The legal actions arose from statements allegedly made and published by Nana Agradaa on May 20, 2025, and June 26, 2025, which Empress Gifty contended were defamatory and harmful to her personal and professional reputation. The claims were brought before the courts as separate suits, citing both slander and libel.
In her original pleadings, Empress Gifty sought multiple reliefs, including GH¢40 million in damages, a perpetual injunction restraining Evangelist Asiedua from making or publishing further defamatory statements, an order for the removal of all offending content from social media and other platforms, and full payment of legal costs and professional fees.
A statement released on Tuesday and signed by Richard Asare Baffour, counsel for Empress Gifty, confirmed that the mutually agreed terms of settlement had been accepted by the court.
According to the statement, the agreement was adopted as a consent judgment by both the Tema High Court divisions handling the related matters, effectively terminating the lawsuits.
The adoption of the settlement by the court gives the agreement the same legal force as a judgment delivered after a full trial.
