The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, has described the Attorney General’s comment made on the murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Suale on the floor of Parliament as irresponsible.
In Parliament on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, the Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame, mentioned that there is no docket fit for prosecution or to pursue any form of justice for the murdered journalist.
The AG also suggested that Ahmed Suale may have been murdered for reasons other than his line of job hence the delay of bringing the case to conclusion.
Addressing the media, Alhassan Suhuyini criticized the government’s inability to find all evidence that led to his murder and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We know how people sat on TV and threatened him, revealed his identity, and urged for him to be beaten and for the minister to ignore all these circumstances and suggest that his murder may have been something else is very irresponsible.
The lawmaker added that “since Ahmed Suale’s murder, all international reports on media freedoms and freedom of expression in Ghana highlights Ahmed Suale’s death prominently. All reports on human rights and justice regarding our country also highlight his murder prominently, therefore I find it scandalous and irresponsible the minister could treat this high profile case in the manner that he did”.
“As journalists, we must be worried because it may have been Ahmed Suale in 2019, it could be me or you in 2025, and we may just be told that your death was a result of a family feud or a fight with a trotro driver on the street”, he stressed.
The Tamale North MP however suggested that the government should seek assistance from private investigation bodies to provide justice for Ahmed Suale.
