Chiefs of Ahafo Mim, in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo region, have generously allocated vast acres of land to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for the construction of a campus for the University of Engineering and Applied Sciences (UEAS), whose main campus is located at Akrodie.
This promising development was marked by a delegation led by the Member of Parliament for Asunafo North, Hon. Evans Opoku Bobbie, Ahafo Regional Minister Hon. George Yaw Boakye, and authorities from Mim Senior High School.
The delegation, representing GTEC, visited the chief of Ahafo Mim to streamline the legal and proper acquisition of land for the construction of the UEAS campus.
In 2022, the Chiefs and people of Mim reiterated their appeal to government to fulfil its promise to site the proposed Ahafo University at Mim.
According to them, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2020 accepted the appeal of the Paramount Chief of Mim, Okrofrobour Dr Yaw Adjei II, to build a university at Mim.
Addressing the chiefs, during the legal acquisition of the land, Prof. Yayra Gzakadzie, Deputy Director General of GTEC, mentioned that the initiative to establish the campus in Ahafo Mim was a result of the lobbying skills and influence of the Member of Parliament, Evans Opoku Bobbie.
The Deputy Director General further emphasized the need for collaboration between Akrodie and Mim residents to ensure the success and progress of the university.
Prof. Gzakadzie expressed optimism about the positive impact the university would have on the region, putting Mim on the map and attracting potential investors.
