The Ahafo Regional Police PRO, Inspector Kwadwo Boakye, has confirmed that a total of 80 lives have been lost in the region through road accidents this year.
Speaking onmeasures taken by the police to prevent an accident free holidays, Inspt. Boakye stressed that the causes of these fatal accidents are overtaking, speeding, insecure loading practices, and a lack of vehicle maintenance.
He therefore urged drivers to be careful during this festive period and make sure their vehicles and motorcycles are in good condition before they hit the road to reduce road accidents.
Inspector Boakye also mentioned that, individuals should be each other’s keeper and get involved in the mantra “See something, say something,” to help the people in fighting crime.
The Ahafo Regional MTTD commander, DSP Ekow Gaisie, also underlined the need for drivers to conduct thorough inspections of their vehicles before embarking on journeys.
Importantly, DSP Gaisie stressed on the need for car owners to ensure their vehicles are insured and drivers have valid driver’s licenses.
