The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Adansi Brofoyedru near Sikaman in the Ashanti Region.

In a solemn statement issued and signed by the Acting Commissioner of AIB Ghana, John M. K. Wumborti, the bureau extended its “heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the entire nation.”

The crash claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians, including two serving Cabinet Ministers, a top security official, and senior military personnel.

“This devastating accident claimed the lives of eight distinguished Ghanaians… Their untimely passing is not only a personal loss to their families and colleagues, but also a national tragedy that has shaken the very foundations of our institutions,” the statement read.

Victims of the crash included:

1. Hon. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence

2. Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation

3. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

4. Hon. Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chairman of the NDC and former Regional Minister

5. Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General, NADMO

6. Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Pilot

7. Flying Officer Manin Twum Ampadu, Co-Pilot

8. Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Crew Member

The Acting Commissioner described the deceased as “men of service, courage, and integrity dedicated to the peace, safety, and development of our beloved country.”

“At AIB Ghana, we are acutely aware of the deep pain this loss brings. While no words can adequately ease the grief being experienced, we stand in solemn solidarity with every family affected,” Mr. Wumborti added.

The Bureau concluded the statement by calling for national unity during this time of mourning and offered prayers for the souls of the departed.

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace. May their legacy of dedication and patriotism endure in the hearts of all Ghanaians,” the AIB Commissioner stated.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are expected to commence under the auspices of AIB Ghana in accordance with international aviation safety protocols.
